The incumbent will supervise all aspects of the North District Trails Program. This district encompasses all of the Tennessee portion of the park and the Big Creek area of North Carolina. Over 400 miles of unpaved trails are located in the district and range from approximately 1000 feet in elevation to over 6000 feet in elevation. These trails are dispersed over 234,000 acres and vary from rugged, steep mountainous trails to more level trails that meander along stream bottoms and woodlands. Most are located in wilderness and backcountry areas that preclude the use of motorized equipment and tools for the purpose of access or accomplishing work.
